Konnichiwa, everybody!

Welcome to Japan and Congratulations getting into University of Tsukuba!

Thank you for showing your interest in us. We are a Taiko club called Tokimeki Taikojuku, playing a traditional Japanese drums known as “Wadaiko”.  Internationally referred to as “taiko,” Wadaiko has a long history and has been very versatile in its uses. It is one of the percussion instruments and the generic name for Japanese drums.

Tokimeki Taikojuku is a circle that focuses on Japanese traditions and art , started in 2000. With the motto “Taiko makes everyone happy,” we are an extracurricular activity group authorized by the University of Tsukuba that enjoys playing taiko drums and flute called Shinobue. We are a member of the Arts Circle Association, which is an association of university-recognized clubs along with the Athletic Association and the Cultural Circle Association.

Currently, we have about 10 members, including international students. We are a cheerful circle with lots of laughter! After practice, we gather at someone’s house to play games, have dinner together, and go out on holidays. We are a very close-knit circle, and we go out together on holidays. All the students love taiko and enjoy practicing it seriously.
